


La Colmena is a production company founded by Diana Lowis in 2014 with the purpose of developing, producing, and distributing audiovisual content from diverse perspectives, styles, narratives, genres, and formats, always striving for high artistic and technical quality.
The company, based in Barranquilla, Colombia, focuses its efforts on becoming a growth platform for emerging filmmakers capable of imbuing their work with a fresh, critical, and daring perspective, thereby stimulating and strengthening regional and independent audiovisual creation.
Diana Lowis, creative director of LA COLMENA, has worked as producer for several productions, some of which have received international acclaim. In the film world, the following films by Roberto Flores Prieto stand out: CHASING FIREFLIES (2013) -Award for Best Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best actor at the Gramado Film Festival, Brazil, and Best Actor Performance and Cinematography at the Huelva Film Festival-; and PINK NOISE (2014) -Best Actress Award at the Huelva Film Festival, and Best Director at the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival. In the field of television: the fiction series BEFORE THE PARTY (2016) by Iván Wild; MEN OF GOD (2021), by Roberto Flores Prieto and Iván Wild (and for which Diana was also screenwriter) - Best Television Series Award at the Mykonos International Film Festival (Greece), Best Television Pilot at the Panama Film Festival, and Special Jury Prize at the Accolade Competition (USA); and AS FAR AS YOU CAN (2024) by Roberto Flores Prieto, of which Diana was part also as screenwriter and cocreator.
In 2019 Diana produced from LA COLMENA the documentary BURNING LAND, by director Juan Camilo Olmos Feris - World premiere at the prestigious Amsterdam International Documentary Festival (IDFA), and Best Documentary Short Award at the Havana Film Festival, and at "El Perro que ladra" in Paris. Also included is the fictional TV series, HOTEL SWEET HOTEL (2022), directed by Roberto Flores Prieto and Julio Azar, and winner of the production incentive from the Ministry of Information and Communications of Colombia, MINTIC.
At the moment, LA COLMENA develops DON QUIXOTE DOES NOT LIVE HERE ANYMORE, A feature-length fiction project written by Diana Lowis, winner of the 2019 Colombian Film Development Fund (FDC) screenwriting grant and selected by the Dreamago Foundation's 'Plume and Pellicule' to participate in the writing residency in Sierre, Switzerland, that same year. The company is also producing the feature-length documentary THE EXPERIMENTAL, and collaborates with the short film THE FUNDAMENTAL PLACE, by Carolina Sourdis, winner of the production incentive from the FDC in Colombia and the ICEC in Catalonia in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
